About the event
Ashtanga Yoga, often referred to as Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, has it’s philosophical roots in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, which was written somewhere between the 1st century BCE and 4th century CE. This describes an eight limbed (ashtanga in sanskrit) path of yoga.
The practice of a set series of postures, with linking sequences, originated in southern India in the first half of the 20th century with T. Krishnamacharya and his pupils. This dynamic form of yoga combines breath, posture, internal focus of the senses, and steady concentration (four of the eight limbs of Patanjali’s Yoga) to become a moving meditation.
The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is also known as Yoga Therapy and progressively increases flexibility and strength throughout the body. The set sequence makes it easy for beginners to advance through the postures and provides a challenge to more experienced practitioners. If you would like to try a dynamic yoga to be strong and flexible or to find a more spiritual path then Ashtanga Yoga might be for you. All ages and experience levels are welcome.
